What inspired your passion for sustainability?
I’ve always been aware, even from a young age, of the waste we
generated as a family, and have actively tried to do better, buy less,
and live cleaner.
How has your focus on
sustainability impacted your life?
When I started a family of my own,
sustainability became a priority. I led by example, bringing awareness and instilling these values in my children. It transformed how we consumed, and eventually led me to launch a green beauty business, and
a product refillery here in Toronto.
What motivated you to get started?
I’ve never been a person to just sit back and
accept the way things are, I love to challenge conventional thinking and push myself to see things from many angles. Plus, there are so many buzzwords surrounding environmental responsibility, and of course greenwashing is everywhere – it can be really confusing for consumers to make sustainable choices.
How did your brand,
eco+amour, come to be?
Having worked in the natural beauty industry for a few years it was really eye opening to see the volume of waste produced in the
category. One day it clicked: I wanted to drive change and introduce a better, less wasteful way to shop our products. With this mission in mind, eco+amour was born, and we ended up partnering with over 50
Canadian brands who aligned with
these values.
How did you end up opening
a product refillery?
In 2018, Toronto’s first beauty refillery
opened its doors in Scarborough with
a focus on earth friendly products and
minimal or no packaging. The retail store
as it exists today was a very organic
transition - already working in the green beauty industry and realizing that refill
stores weren’t common in Toronto, it was
an easy decision to launch eco+amour.
Any tips for someone who’s trying to be more sustainable in their daily life?
My number one recommendation is to just go for it! Don’t worry about doing everything
100% - small, easy changes or simple sustainable swaps will help propel you forward: Buy plastic
free where possible – look for little or no packaging, refillable or reusable options.
• Less is less – focus on what’s needed, or what brings you joy; aim to buy less overall.
• Progress over perfection – don’t get discouraged!
